Some of you may be aware that the World Cup shall begin in South Africa on Friday 11th June 2010. You had no idea? We don't believe you!

Anyway, we shall run a regular blog here (which will be written by me) throughout the tournament – that will give views and opinions on all the latest ball-kicking action! Now, in the countdown to the big kick-off, this first blog is focused on the tremendously exciting build-up...

It hasn't escaped everyone’s attention that flags etc are starting to pop up all over the place! St. George (or Three Lions) have been appearing on houses, pubs, cars, chocolate, cabbages, faces, fizzy beverages, and anything else that you care to mention. We are all delighted that the "flag production" industry is going through a major boom!  However, a small section of the country, me included, will not be joining the flag-buying madness due to possible future storage problems.

More serious news in recent days, as evil mastermind Simon Cowell has attempted to ruin everybody’s build-up to the World Cup by bullying Dizzee Rascal and a chubby comedy actor into recording an England World Cup song. But most of us hope to counteract this vile wickedness by hopefully purchasing some official England ear plugs.

The actual footie news from the England camp has kept the buzz and anticipation across the country going, with Fabio Capello hilariously having a good rant at photographers for (shockingly) taking photographs, causing loud cheers when we hear Emile "Knobbler" Heskey hasn't crippled anyone in training, and news that Wayne Rooney still remains in fantastic swearing form. Brilliant!

Other interesting World Cup-themed news has involved Spain scaring everyone to death by winning 6-0 in a friendly. Despite these events, the other countries have decided not to withdraw from the competition.  It is understood that some unfortunately believe that they actually have a chance of winning it. You have to admire spirit like that! It’s what sport is all about.

The next exhilarating World Cup blog - online in the next few days - will give you top tips, wisdom, heartbreak, sweat, misguided predictions, and the ugly lowdown on the beautiful game!
